Mr. Squirrel

An unlikely beginning

I usually begin my mornings watching the news. Today's reporting was about the drug epidemic in America. A rather bothersome subject.

Later, while sitting outside enjoying a little peace and quiet, I found myself watching Mr. Squirrel going about his business. He was gathering nuts and occasionally frolicking with either Mrs. Squirrel or his girlfriend. I wasn't about to pry into his personal affairs.

What a wonderfully uncomplicated existence. Find nuts, store nuts, eat nuts, frolic. I must admit, I was beginning to envy that little furball.

Then my thoughts returned to the morning's news. I couldn't help thinking about the contrast between his world and ours. An unlikely comparison, perhaps, but something about it stayed with me.

Little did I know that Mr. Squirrel had just given me something to think about.
