Rescue Me
Many beliefs and misconceptions.
THE STORY
Slavery is one of the most painful and consequential chapters in American history. For generations, millions of Black Americans were denied their freedom, separated from their families, subjected to violence and exploitation, and deprived of the most fundamental human rights.
Although slavery was abolished more than 150 years ago, its legacy did not disappear with emancipation. Its effects continued through segregation, discrimination, and systemic inequality, and their impact can still be felt in American society today.
Acknowledging this history is not about assigning guilt to people living today. It is about honoring those who endured unimaginable injustice, listening to the experiences of the generations that followed, and understanding how the past has helped shape the present.
History can be painful to confront, but healing does not come from avoiding difficult truths. It comes through compassion, honest conversation, understanding, and a shared commitment to building a more just future.
We remember the past not to remain divided by it, but to learn from it and to move forward together with greater empathy, dignity, and respect for one another.
