Few works in David’s collection carry as much personal history as On Your Knees. First created in 1975 in his Pittsburgh apartment—complete with a “Yellow Brick Road” kitchen floor and a tinfoil-covered refrigerator—the original drawing was born in an era of youthful rebellion and creative discovery.
That apartment, painted in dramatic contrasts of black and white, became the cradle of his earliest artistic identity. But life intervened: a violent eviction wiped away the first On Your Knees and nearly everything he owned. Years later, in New York City, David recreated the piece, which went on to be featured in a solo show at the Plaza Hotel.
The work has lived through the birth of his children, countless moves, a fire, and decades of transformation—each mark on its surface a chapter of that journey. The piece is available for purchase, history included. Price on request.
